ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE DECLARING A MORATORIUM
ON THE ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PERMITS FOR THE
INSTALLATION OF CERTAIN ADVERTISING SI"GNS
WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF
B EAUMO NT.
WHEREAS, the State Highway Commission' s regulation on the
spacing of advertising signs has been amended from five hundred
feet (500' ) to fifteen hundred feet (1 ,500' ) from any other sign;
and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont' s Zoning Ordinance provides
for the spacing of advertising signs no closer than five hundred
feet ( 500' ) to another sign on federal or interstate highways and
three hundred feet ( 300' ) on any other street; and,
WHEREAS, it is necessary to study the sign regulations of
the City of Beaumont to more appropriately conform them to the
recent changes of the State regulations; and,
WHEREAS, in the interest of the health, safety and
welfare of the citizens of the City of Beaumont, it is necessary to
temporarily discontinue the issuance of building permits for the
erecting of certain advertising signs in the City of Beaumont
pending a study of the sign regulations and a report to the City
Council of the results;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT all building permits for the installation of advertising signs
in excess of ten (10) feet in height in the city be discontinued

for a period of ninety (90) days from and after December 30, 1985,
pending consideration of changes in the Zoning Ordinance relating
to signs.
