ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE SUSPENDING THE EFFECTIVE
DATE OF THE PROPOSED RATE SCHEDULE OF GULF
STATES UTILITIES COMPANY; AUTHORIZING THE
RATIFICATION OF INTERVENTION IN DOCKET NO.
6525 PENDING IN THE PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION
OF TEXAS; REQUIRING THE CITY CLERK TO SERVE
GULF STATES UTLITIES COMPANY WITH A CERTIFIED
COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE AND PROVIDING FOR
S EVE RABI L I TY.
WHEREAS, on October 1 , 1985 Gulf States Utilities Company
filed a proposal to increase retail electric rates within the City
of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, on October 1 , 1985, Gulf States Utilities
Company filed an application with the Public Utilities Commission
of Texas to increase retail electric rates in unincorporated areas
in the State of Texas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
That in order to adequately review the request of Gulf
States Utilities Company and to give it the careful study which it
requires, the City Council does hereby suspend the operation of the
proposed rate schedule for a period of ninety (90) days beyond the
date on which the schedule of rates would otherwise go into
effect.
Section 2 .
That the intervention filed by the City Attorney in
Docket No. 6525 now pending in the Public Utility Commission of
Texas and all acts of the City Attorney heretofore taken in that
regard be, and they are hereby, ratified and approved.
Section 3 .
That all costs and expenses incurred shall be asessed
against Gulf States Utilities Company .
Section 4 .
That the City Clerk shall serve upon Gulf States Utilities
Company a certified copy of this ordinance.
Section 5 .
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular
set of persons or circumstances should for any reason be held to be
invalid, such invalidity shall in no way affect the remaining
portions of this ordinance and to such end the various portions and
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
