ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING POSITIONS
IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND AMENDING THE
BUDGET TO REFLECT THE ABOLISHING OF THOSE
POSITIONS.
WHEREAS, in light of the current financial situation of
the City of Beaumont, the City has instituted a City-wide freeze on
hiring; and
WHEREAS, there are currently several vacant Grade I level
positions in the Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that these positions are
not presently needed for the orderly and efficient operation of the
Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Article IV of the current agreement with the
City of Beaumont and Local 399 of the International Association of
Fire Fighters additionally allows management the right to abolish
positions; and
WHEREAS, in a good faith attempt to bring the Fire
Department into compliance with the hiring freeze, the Council
feels it is in the best interest of the City of Beaumont to abolish
the five Grade I positions presently vacant in the Fire
Department;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the five vacant Grade I positions in the Fire Department be,
and they are hereby, abolished.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Budget of the City of
Beaumont for the fiscal year beginning October 1 , 1984, be amended
to reflect that the five Grade I positions in the Fire Department
be, and they are hereby, abolished.
