ORDINANCE NO.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 23
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT; AND IN PARTICULAR THE NAME OF
THOSE CERTAIN STREETS AS INDICATED UPON THE
OFFICIAL STREET MAP OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, BY
CHANGING THE NAMES OF PORT ARTHUR ROAD FROM
THE CITY LIMIT LINE AT SPINDLETOP AVENUE TO
THE CENTERLINE OF WASHINGTON BOULEVARD, AND
RAILROAD AVENUE FROM THE CENTERLINE OF
WASHINGTON BOULEVARD TO ITS INTERSECTION
WITH THE NORTHERN BOUNDARY LINE OF THE VAN
WORMER ADDITION TO THE CITY OF BEAUMONT,
AND MARIPOSA FROM APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET
SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF LIBERTY TO ITS
INTERSECTION WITH THE CENTERLINE OF
LIVEOAK, AND DESIGNATING THOSE STREETS AS
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. , PARKWAY;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING
FOR REPEAL.
WHEREAS, the City Council has expressed an interest in
designating an appropriate memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ;
and
WHEREAS, the State Highway Spur 380 project is scheduled
to be completed in approximately eight (8 ) years; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to designate State
Highway Spur 380 as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. , Parkway; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to change the names of those
several existing streets that will combine to form State Highway
Spur 380;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
That Chapter 23 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont, and in particular the Official Street Map of the City of
Beaumont referred to in Section 23-1 thereof, be amended to reflect

the change in name of the following streets to Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. , Parkway:
1 ) Port Arthur Road from the city limit
line at Spindletop Avenue to the
centerline of Washington Boulevard;
2) Railroad Avenue from the centerline of
Washington Boulevard to its intersection
with the northern boundary line of the
Van Wormer Addition to the City of
Beaumont;
3 ) Mariposa Street from approximately 40
feet south of the centerline of Liberty
Street to its intersection with the
centerline of Liveoak Street.
Section 2 .
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance to such end the various and
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3 .
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
