HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 85-44 ORDINANCE NO. ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE WAIVING BUILDING PERMIT FEES FOR REHABILITATION OF HOUSING FOR ELDERLY AND HANDICAPPED HOMEOWNERS BY NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. WHEREAS, the "Christmas in April" Program is a nationally recognized housing rehabilitation program that rehabilitates sub-standard homes for elderly and handicapped persons; and, WHEREAS, similar programs across the country have targeted sub-standard housing in need of repair, buys tools and materials and recruits volunteers to do the necessary work; and, WHEREAS, local Jefferson County business leaders have launched a volunteer program and set a goal of rehabilitating thirty ( 30) homes in the area to improve the quality of life for local elderly and handicapped homeowners; and, WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need and benefit of a program such as the "Christmas in April" Program and in support of this endeavor will assist in its success by waiving the building permit fees associated with the rehabilitation work on the homes targeted for Beaumont; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: THAT nonprofit organizations which qualify for federal tax exemption status which apply for building permits on April 26, 1985 for the rehabilitation of residential housing in Beaumont shall be exempt from the payment of fees associated with the permits.
