ORDINANCE NO.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY LEAVE IN
CASE OF DEATH OF THE GRANDPARENTS OR
GRANDCHILDREN OF AN EMPLOYEE OR THE
EMPLOYEE' S SPOUSE; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
That Chapter 21, Section 21-11( a) of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be, and the same is hereby,
amended to read as follows:
Section 21-11( a) :
Employees working under regular appointments
may be granted emergency leave with pay for
a period not to exceed three ( 3 ) days in
case of death in the immediate family , and
this leave shall not be charged against
vacation or sick leave. Immediate family
shall include the spouse, child, parent or
guardian, grandparents, grandchildren and
brother or sister of the employee or of the
employee' s spouse or anyone living in the
same household as the employee. Temporary
employees may be granted leaves of absence
without pay in such cases. Employees who
wish to attend the funeral of other than a
member of the immediate family may be given
time off at the discretion of the department
director without pay or the time may be
charged to vacation leave.
Section 2 .
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the

remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 3 .
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
