ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING
FOR A JOINT ELECTION WITH
JEFFERSON COUNTY ON AUGUST 13,
1983 ; AND PROVIDING FOR
S EVE RABI L I TY.
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont will hold a Charter change
election August 13, 1983 ; and,
WHEREAS, Jefferson County has requested that a joint
election be held between the City of Beaumont and Jefferson County
within the area of the Beaumont Independent School District which
is also within the boundaries of the City of Beaumont;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT.
Section 1 .
The election to be held by the City of Beaumont on August
13, 1983 shall be held jointly with Jefferson County, Texas, in
the election precincts set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto
and made a part hereof for all purposes, in accordance with the
following terms of agreement between Jefferson County, Texas and
the City of Beaumont:
(A) The expenses of the election within the joint
precincts shall be divided with the City of Beaumont paying that
part of said expenses represented by a ratio of the number of
voters voting in the City election to the total number of voters
voting in both the Jefferson County and the City election in said
joint precincts. Jefferson County shall pay the remainder of the
election expenses.
(B) A single ballot form shall be used which shall
contain the propositions to be voted upon in the City election as
well as the proposition to be voted on in the Jefferson County
election.
(C) The election officers for the City of Beaumont shall
conduct both the City and the Jefferson County elections in the
joint precincts.
( D) Records for both elections shall be combined.

( E) One set of ballot boxes and stub boxes shall be used
for both elections.
( F) Election returns shall be made on joint forms but the
City Council of the City of Beaumont shall canvass the returns of
the general municipal election..
(G) The City Clerk of the City of Beaumont is designated
custodian of all records and of the voted ballots.
Section 2 .
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a
particular person, or to a particular set of circumstances, should
for any reason be held invalid, such invalidity shall in no way
affect the remaining portions of this ordinance and to such end
the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared
to be severable.
