HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 82-08 ORDINANCE NO. 8a-X ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21, SECTION 21-74 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TO PROVIDE FOR GRADES, CLASSIFICATION, PAY SCALES, AND OTHER BENEFITS IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; AND ALSO AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A LABOR AGREEMENT; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 . THAT Chapter 21, Section 21-74 of the Code of Ordinances be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 21-74. All positions in the police department of the city are hereby classified into the following grades. Each grade having duties of substantially similar authority, importance and responsibility: ( 1 ) Grade I. There shall be one hundred forty-three (143) positions in Grade I, said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer in this grade with less than one (1 ) year of service shall be one thousand four hundred ten dollars ($1 ,410.00) until April 1, 1982 on which date the base pay of all officers in this grade with less than one (1 ) year's service shall be one thousand four hundred thirty dollars ($1 ,430. 00) per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than one year's service, but less than two ( 2 ) years service shall be one thousand five hundred eleven dollars ($1 ,511. 00) per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with two ( 2 ) years or more service but less than three ( 3 ) years of service shall be one thousand five hundred sixty-one dollars ($1 ,561. 00) per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with three ( 3 ) years of service but less than four ( 4 ) years of service shall be one thousand six hundred eleven dollars ($1 ,611. 00) per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with four ( 4 ) years of service but less than five ( 5 ) years of service shall be one thousand six hundred sixty-one dollars ($1,661. 00) per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than five ( 5 ) years of service shall be one thousand seven hundred eleven dollars ($1, 711. 00) per month. ( 2 ) Grade II. There shall be sixty-six (66) positions in Grade II, said positions to include sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every officer who has been in this grade less than five ( 5 ) years shall be one thousand eight hundred eleven dollars ($1 ,$11.00) per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than five (5 ) years of service in said grade shall be one thousand nine hundred eleven dollars ($1 ,911. 00) per month. ( 3) Grade III. There shall be twelve (12 ) positions in Grade III, said positions to include police lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be two thousand seventy dollars ( $2,070. 00) per month. (4 ) Grade IV. There shall be nine (9 ) positions in Grade IV and the base pay of every officer in this grade shall be two thousand two hundred fifty dollars ($2,250. 00) per month. ( 5 ) Grade V. There shall be three (3 ) positions in this grade and the base pay of every officer in this grade shall be two thousand four hundred forty dollars ( $2,440. 00) per month. - 2 - (6 ) There shall be one (1 ) position in Grade VI and the base pay shall be two thousand six hundred twenty- five dollars ($2, 625. 00) per month. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a labor agreement with the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local 491 for the fiscal year commencing October 1, 1981. Section 3 . That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 4 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the / t day of - Mayor - - 3 -
