HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 79-77 ORDINANCE NO. -�� ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21 SECTION 21-42 TO PROVIDE FOR LONGEVITY PAY OF $4.00 PER MONTH AFTER FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. That Chapter 21, Section 21-42 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 21-42 - Longevity Pay. Effective October 1, 1979, each full time employee with five or more years of service will be paid longevity pay at the rate of $4.00 per month for each year of service. The longevity pay of each full-time employee with fewer than five (5) years of service as of September 30, 1979 shall be frozen at the amount payable as of September 30, 1979 until the completion of five (5) years of service. Each employee employed after September 30, 1978 shall receive no longevity pay until completion of five (5) years continuous service. Longevity pay for persons employed after July 1, 1970 shall be computed only on the basis of continuous, unbroken service. Broken, noncontinuous service prior to July 1, 1970 shall be included in computing longevity pay for those persons employed prior to July 1, 1970. Section 2. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. This ordinance shall not apply to firemen and policemen. Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
