ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 29-52(b)
OF THE ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO
AMEND THE RATE AND FARE SCHEDULE FOR TAXICABS;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL;
PROVIDING A PENALTY AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 29-52(b) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 29-52(b) - Schedule.
Unless otherwise changed by the City Council, the
following taxicabs rates and fares shall be effective
in the City:
(1) The rate or fare for either one or two passengers
shall be eighty cents ($0.80) for the first one-
eighth mile or fraction thereof and ten cents
($0.10) for each one-eighth mile or fraction
thereof thereafter traveled. The rate or fare
for each additional passenger shall be fifty
cents ($0.50) per passenger.
(2) For each one minute of waiting time consumed by
the taxicab at the instance of the passenger, the
rate shall be fifteen cents ($0.15) .
(3) Whenever a taxicab is engaged on a hourly basis,
whether for one or more passengers, the rate or
fare shall be $9.00 for each hour. For each
quarter hour in excess of each completed hour the
rate shall be $2.25 for each quarter hour the
taxicab is so engaged.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or
circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall
in no way affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the
various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
Section 4.
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall, upon
conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances
of Beaumont, Texas.
Section 5.
This ordinance shall be and become effective at 12:01 A.M.
July 15, 1979.
