ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE Al`ENDING CHAPTER 21, SECTION 21-74 ESTABLISHING POSITIONS AND PAY GRADES Il.Q THE POLICE DEPARUM-7f; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUD40NT: Section 1. THAT Chapter 21, Section 21-74 be, and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows: Section 21-74 - Grades and Classifications in the Police Department All positions in the Police Department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the following grades. Each grade having duties of substantially simi- lar authority, importance and responsibility: (1) Grade I. There shall be 131 positions in Grade I, said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer who has been in this grade less than one (1) year shall be $1,084 per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with one (1) or more years of service but less than three (3) years of service shall be $1,138 per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with three (3) or more years of service but less than five (5) years of service shall be $1,185 per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with five (5) or more years of service shall be $1,225 per month. (2) Grade II. There shall be 56 positions in Grade II, said positions to include sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every officer who has been in this grade less than five (5) years shall be $1,315 per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than five (5) years' service shall be $1,345 per month. (3) Grade III. There shall be 11 positions in Grade III, said positions to include police lieutenants. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be $1,450 per month. (4) Grade IV. There shall be 8 positions in Grade IV, said positions to include police captains. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be $1,600 per month. (5) Grade V. There shall be 3 positions in this grade, said positions to include police majors. The base pay of every officer in this grade shall be $1,755 per month. (6) Grade VI. There shall be one position in Grade VI, said position to be that of Assistant Chief. The base pay for this officer is $1,873 per month. Section 2. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 3.
