ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
SECTION 26-60 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
BY CHANGING THE HOURS DURING WHICH
PARKING METER REGULATIONS APPLY;
AMENDING SECTION 26-62 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
BY ESTABLISHING PARKING METER RATES
AND TIME LIMITS; PROVIDING FOR A
PENALTY; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Section 26-60 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Beaumont be amended to read as follows:
Section 26-60: The regulations provided for in this
division shall apply between the hours
of 8: 00 a.m. and 5. 00 p.m. on all days
other than Sundays and the following
holidays: The first day of January,
the fourth day of July, the first
Monday in September, Thanksgiving Day,
and the Twenty-fifth day of December.
Section 2.
That paragraph (a) of Section 26-62 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be amended to read as follows:
Section 26-62 (a) : The traffic engineer shall install
parking meters in the parking meter zones
established as provided in this article
upon the curb immediately adjacent to each
designated parking space. Such meters
shall be capable of being operated, either
automatically or mechanically, upon the
deposit therein of an appropriate coin of
the United States currency. The traffic
engineer shall time the meters upon the
basis of an engineering and traffic investi-
gation to best aid in the regulation, control
and inspection of the parking of vehicles.
The timing and type of operation shall be
one of the following:
1. Nickle meter, 30 minute limit. Parking
shall be lawful for 30 minutes upon the
deposit of a five (5) cent coin.
2. Nickle-dime progressive meter, one hour
time limit. Parking shall be lawful for 30
minutes upon deposit of a five (5) cent coin
and for one (1) hour upon deposit of two
five (5) cent coins or a ten (10) cent coin.
3. Nickle-dime-quarter progressive meter,
two hour time limit. Parking shall be lawful
for 30 minutes upon the deposit of a five (5)
cent coin, for one (1) hour upon the deposit
of two five (5) cent coins or a ten (10) cent
coin, and for two (2) hours upon the deposit
of four five (5) cent coins, two ten (10)
cent coins or a twenty-five (25) cent coin.
Section 3.
This ordinance shall take effect as the parking meters
provided for in Section 1 hereof are installed in the parking
meter zones by the traffic engineer.
Section 4 .
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance
shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8
of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
Section 5.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a par-
ticular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.

Section 6 .
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
