HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 81-55 ORDINANCE NO. 0/ 6.5 ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6-21 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT BY CHANGING THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS FOR FACE BRICK FOR CERTAIN APPLICATIONS; PROVIDING FOR SEVE RABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 . That Section 6-21 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be amended by adding a provision amending Section 1402.1 of the Standard Building Code to read as follows: Section 1402.1 of the Standard Building Code is amended to read as follows: ( a) Brick of clay, shale, concrete or calcium silicate ( sandlime) shall be of a quality at least equal to that required by ASTM Standards: solid clay and shale brick shall conform to ASTM C216 for facing bricks shall conform to ASTM C216 for facing bricks or ASTM C62 for building bricks, (except as provided for in paragraph (b) of this Section) hollow clay and shale brick shall conform to ASTM C652, concrete brick shall conform to ASTM C55, calcium silicate brick shall conform to ASTM C73. (b) Brick with a compressive strength of less than 2500 psi but greater than 1500 psi and meeting all other requirements of ASTM C216 may be utilized when used as facing brick , with no part of the application constituting a load bearing wall, subject to the following conditions and requirements: i�1-7 9// � (1 ) The height of any face brick applica- tion shall not exceed thirty ( 30) feet in height. ( 2 ) Facing brick applications exceeding thirty (30) feet in height must be accompanied by a testing report from a recognized testing laboratory verifying that the compressive strength of the brick meets or exceeds 2500 psi in accordance with ASTM C216. In addition, specific mortor specifications must be submitted to the Building Official for approval. ( 3 ) Upon completion of installation of facing bricks with a compresssive strength of less than 2500 psi but greater than 1500 psi, all exterior surfaces shall be damp proofed with a silicone base sealant or other type sealant approved by the Building Official. (4 ) At the request of the Building Official, either the distributor or manufacturer of the brick, at their expense, will supply a testing report from a recognized testing laboratory detailing compressive strength and moisture absorption characteristics of the brick to be used on the job. (c) When in contact with the ground, such as found- ation work , or when used in retaining walls, the brick shall be of at least Grade SW for clay or shale or sand-lime brick, or Grade P - 2 - for concrete brick. When exposed to the weather above ground the brick shall be of at least Grade MW for clay or shale or sand-lime brick, or Grade P for concrete brick. Section 2 . That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 3 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only. Section 4 . Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
