WHEREAS, first elected in 1986, Edward C. Moore was a civil rights pioneer in
Jefferson County; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Moore served the citizens of Jefferson County as a
county commissioner for nearly 16 years, playing a key role in bringing state and federal
prison facilities to Jefferson County,which now employ hundreds of Southeast Texas;and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Moore was a tireless advocate for improving access to
healthcare for the most needy citizens of Jefferson County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont supports the action of the Commissioners Court of Jefferson
County on June 3, 2002, resolving to honor the accomplishments and service of Edward
C. Moore by naming West Port Arthur Road/Spur 93 in his honor as Edward C. Moore
Highway.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont on this the 6th day of
August, 2002.
