WHEREAS, thousands of men and women over America are being called to active
duty with military reserve components because of the terrorist activity here in America; and
WHEREAS, several employees of the City of Beaumont are members of reserve or
National Guard components and may be called to serve during this emergency and a
number of whom have already reported for duty; and
WHEREAS, for the reservists, this service will mean leaving their homes and
families and jobs for a period of 180 days or longer with little time to prepare for this
sudden change in their lives; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is desirous of giving support to these reservists and
America's armed forces in every possible way and urge all citizens of Beaumont to do
likewise; and
WHEREAS,the Council wishes to do as much as possible to assist City employees
who are reservists and ease their transition to military service from civilian life;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT it shall be the policy of the City that all City employees called to active duty in the
reserves shall be compensated for the difference between their total compensation from
the military and their salary with the City for a period of 180 calendar days from the date
they report to duty.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that insurance coverage for their dependents shall
be continued for the same 180-day period at the cost paid by employees in the same job
class.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this 9th day of October,
2001.
