BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
WHEREAS, Jefferson County, the City of Port Arthur and Sabine Pass are
seeking approval for the reconstruction of State Highway between Sabine Pass and High
Island; and,
WHEREAS, a public meeting will be held in Port Arthur, Texas August 30, 2001;
and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont recognizes the need for
reconstruction of State Highway 87 along a coastal alignment. This coastal alignment is
important because:
1) it provides better improvements in general transportation and
mobility between Sabine Pass and High Island; and,
2) the shoreline route alternative provides access that would increase
nature tourism and economic development; and,
3) the shoreline route alternative provides/improves recreational
access to beaches and other public lands; and,
4) the shoreline route alternative would provide an alternative route
for emergency response and public safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont supports the reconstruction of State Highway 87 along a
coastal alignment.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the 28th day of
August, 2001.
