REGULAR SESSION <br /> CITY COUNCIL - CITY OF BEAUMONT <br /> HELD FEBRUARY 9 , 1982 <br /> BE IT REMEMBERED that the City Council of the City of Beaumont , Texas , <br /> met in regular session this the 9th day of February, 1982 , with the <br /> following present : <br /> HONORABLE : Tom Combs , Jr. Mayor Pro Tem 8 <br /> Councilman, Ward I <br /> Evelyn M. Lord Councilman , Ward II <br /> Wayne Turner Councilman, Ward IV <br /> Absent : Maurice Meyers Mayor <br /> Calvin Williams Councilman , Ward III <br /> Ray Riley City Manager <br /> Hugh Earnest Asst . City Manager <br /> Kenneth Wall City Attorney <br /> -000- <br /> The Invocation was given by Dr. Wallace Shook, pastor of First United <br /> Methodist Church. <br /> The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilman Lord . <br /> -000- <br /> The following proclamation was issued : "Bubba Busceme Day in Beaumont" <br /> February 12 , 1982 . <br /> The Council meeting was visited by Mr. John Stevens and Sesame Street ' s <br /> "The Count" who presented tickets to City Council members for Thursday <br /> night - February 18th - performance of "Big Bird ' s Super Spectacular <br /> Totally Amateur Show, " a salute to the music of the 50 ' s with a special <br /> salute to Fred Estaire. <br /> -000-- <br /> Congratulations were extended to Councilman Lord for her appointment by <br /> Cathy Reynolds of Denver , Chairperson of the National League of Cities <br /> Committee on Community and Economic Development , to serve on the Steer- <br /> ing Committee of this Board . <br /> -000- <br /> Resolution 82-45 authorizing awards of bids for comprehensive insurance <br /> coverage for all city buildings and their contents for a three-year period <br /> -- Fire and Extended Coverage , including Vandalism, Malicious Mischief and <br /> Special Extended Coverage on buildings and contents to Chicago Insurance <br /> Company at a premium of $104 , 241 . 00 ; $10 , 000 , 000 . 00 blanket coverage ex- <br /> cluded from the first policy which is chiefly Flood and Earthquake damage , <br /> subject to $100 , 000 . 00 deductible , to Lexington Insurance Company at a <br /> premium of $58 ,470 . 00 ; and $5 , 000 , 000 . 00 Boiler and Machinery Coverage for <br /> all locations with a $25 , 000 . 00 deductible to Northern. Insurance Company <br /> for a premium of $12 ,306 . 00 (total cost for the three years - 175 , 017 . 00) <br /> -- was considered. <br /> Councilman Lord questioned award of bid to Lexington Insurance Company at <br /> a premium of $58 ,470 . 00 when Munro/American Centennial ' s bid was $53 , 085 . 00. <br /> The item was deferred to the end of the regular session in an effort to <br /> determine reasons for the recommendation to Lexington.
